When I start\u00aded to breed cock\u00aders, I remem\u00adber I had a very hard time read\u00ading the stan\u00addard. It was so dif\u00adfi\u00adcult to me to under\u00adstand what it tru\u00adly meant, and how an ide\u00adal dog should be. But I was lucky enough to have a men\u00adtor \u2013 Mrs. Sonia Peixo\u00adto, Gold\u00aden Gate Ken\u00adnel in Brazil \u2013 who didn\u2019t mind to spend hours and more hours, month after month, teach\u00ading me all the points of the stan\u00addard and show\u00ading the faults and qual\u00adi\u00adties of my dogs, help\u00ading me to find a good stud sire for my bitch\u00ades and giv\u00ading me a pic\u00adture how a per\u00adfect dog must be. <\/p>

How\u00adev\u00ader, there are so many breed\u00aders around the world who are not as lucky as I was, and think\u00ading on them, I decid\u00aded to show my inter\u00adpre\u00adta\u00adtion of the stan\u00addard, with as many pho\u00adtos as pos\u00adsi\u00adble, try\u00ading to help the novices to under\u00adstand the stan\u00addard of our so loved breed. <\/p>

Remem\u00adber, nobody is able to breed to improve the stan\u00addard. The stan\u00addard is what it is<\/a>. The breed\u00aders must IMPROVE<\/span> THEIR<\/span> DOGS<\/span> to meet the stan\u00addard. That is the goal of any good breed\u00ader and a good dog is the one who is as close as pos\u00adsi\u00adble to the standard's description. <\/p>

Nev\u00ader for\u00adget some\u00adthing: To breed good dogs you don't need any luck. You need KNOWLEDGE<\/span>. If you are able to under\u00adstand the stan\u00addard and visu\u00adal\u00adize how a good dog should be, you will not have any prob\u00adlems to breed good dogs. You just need luck to breed GREAT<\/span> DOGS<\/span>, but the decent ones are a piece of cake!<\/p>

The head is the most impor\u00adtant part of any dog \u2014 Why? Which part of the dog do you look at first to rec\u00adog\u00adnize if that is a dober\u00adman, a cock\u00ader or a col\u00adlie? The head, right? We have dif\u00adfer\u00adent opin\u00adions about how the per\u00adfect cock\u00ader head should be. Basi\u00adcal\u00adly, there are two types of heads that meet the stan\u00addard: Sport\u00ading and Plush and the dif\u00adfer\u00adence between them should be the length of the foreface and the skull shape.<\/p>

Here are two VERY<\/span> BEAUTIFUL<\/span> exam\u00adples of each one:<\/p>

Which one is the right one? That is the big dilemma!<\/p>

The \"plush lovers\" say the skull of the sport\u00ading heads aren't round enough and the foreface is too long.<\/p>

And the \"sport\u00ading lovers\" say the plush heads' foreface is too short and some\u00adtimes the eyes are too round. And they nev\u00ader will be able to work on the fields because they couldn't car\u00adry a bird.<\/p>

I like the plush head bet\u00adter and as I think the head is so impor\u00adtant, I do my best to breed dogs with plush ones. I am what peo\u00adple call a \"head hunter\". It is quite dif\u00adfi\u00adcult for me to like a dog with\u00adout a plush head. On the oth\u00ader hand, I will not think twice to use a male with a sport\u00ading head if I believe this male will help me to fix some faults in one of my bitches.<\/p>

How\u00adev\u00ader I have noticed the sport\u00ading head is quite dom\u00adi\u00adnant to the plush one. Every time I used a sport\u00ading to a plush I got NO<\/span> plush head\u00aded pup\u00adpy. A good exam\u00adple are the two pup\u00adpies below. The dam is the same, a bitch with a very plush head out plush head\u00aded par\u00adents. The pup\u00adpy A is out the MALE<\/span> A (sport\u00ading) and the pup\u00adpy B is out the MALE<\/span> B (plush), each pup\u00adpy (they are girls) was the first \"head choice\" of their litters.<\/p>

As you can see, the PUPPY<\/span> A is in the mid\u00addle of a sport\u00ading and a plush head. It has the same round skull and high fore\u00adhead as the PUPPY<\/span> B, the stop is almost as deep as the oth\u00ader, but the muz\u00adzle isn't as broad and the foreface isn't as short as the pup\u00adpy B.<\/span><\/p>

So, if you are a plush head lover, but all your dogs have sport\u00ading heads, I don't have good news for you. It will be very dif\u00adfi\u00adcult you get a plush head out them. But you will be able to get plush heads in two gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtions. You will use your bitch to a plush male, hold the best head\u00aded girl and use her again to a plush male. You will have a good chance to get a plush head\u00aded pup\u00adpy by doing that. <\/span><\/p>

Anoth\u00ader impor\u00adtant point to iden\u00adti\u00adfy a good head- IT<\/span> MUST<\/span> HAVE<\/span> A FIGURE<\/span> \"8\" SHAPE<\/span>, the two elipses being almost the same size. There are more exam\u00adples below (believe it or not, the par\u00adti\u00adcol\u00ador was bred by me. It was the only par\u00adti lit\u00adter I ever bred):<\/span><\/p>

We have 3 oth\u00ader kind of heads than the plush and sporty, but not all of them are correct.<\/span><\/p>

There is the the dog that doesn't have a deep stop, has a plain skull, the muz\u00adzle isn't broad, the foreface is long. I don't know if there is a cor\u00adrect descrip\u00adtion for this kind of head. I name them CARROTS<\/span>, because it is what they look like to me.<\/span><\/p>

If you have a cock\u00ader with this kind of head, maybe it would be a good idea to take this out your breed\u00ading pro\u00adgram, because it will be so hard to have good heads (even if you like the sport\u00ading type) using it. Maybe you can keep a bitch (if her body is tru\u00adly nice) and use her to a very plush head\u00aded male. But if you are plan\u00adning to keep a male with this kind of head \u2026 well, it must have a FANTASTIC<\/span> body, the best move\u00adment and ter\u00adrif\u00adic tem\u00adpera\u00adment. But please nev\u00ader for\u00adget.. this is MY<\/span> POINT<\/span> OF<\/span> VIEW<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

But some\u00adtimes the dog has a high fore\u00adhead, short muz\u00adzle, deep stop, but the two elipses of the \"8\" are not the same size, it usu\u00adal\u00adly hap\u00adpens for two reasons:<\/span><\/p>
